Partly Private
Filmmaker Danae Elon in an interview with indieWIRE says: It all began when Philip, my partner told me about a story his father had told him: “In Algeria”, he said, “there is a tradition of putting the foreskin in the couscous dish after the ceremony”. “In the couscous dish??”
Synopsis: To cut or not to cut? Pregnant with a baby boy, director Danae Elon and her husband face “a big choice about his little penis. From New York to London, Istanbul to Israel, Elon travels the world in an effort to understand the controversial ritual of male circumcision. At the heart of this emotional, shockingly funny journey is a modern family, an innocent little boy, and a mother’s unwavering love. (Description provided by Tirbeca Film Festival)
What amazes me about this is that it was the father who wanted his sons penis cut off, not the wife.
There are two things that I just don't understand regarding what any one man would do to another man. The first is how any man would cut off another mans foreskin. Let alone your son. Especially your son. The second thing is how any man could tell (either as a father or a pastor, minister, priest, school teacher or any "person of authority") another man to not masturbate. These are the two biggest sins any man can commit towards his fellow men. Amen
Partly Private will be part of the World Documentary Competition of the 2009 Tirbeca Film Festival
